Artist Statement
Before I had ever put paint on canvas, an accomplished artist in the twilight of her life nurtured me, helped me to choose brushes and paint, and celebrated my work.
I soon realized the sweet peace and freedom that comes with these expressions connected to my heart. Those who feel anything viewing my work inspire me to search even more to keep finding ways to make meaningful connections.
In essence, painting fuels my joy and in my next phase will help me to express the perseverance and victory to overcome the pain of tremendous loss.
Notes About the Work
Creation, patterns and forms of momentum that come as life emerges, the sparkle of new birth, the sacredness of the majesty of God's plan are infused in my thinking as I create.
Artistic Background
Training has come by doing and finding courage to reveal this spiritual aspect of my being.
I am in awe that two pieces are in a museum in Southern Louisiana and the newspaper in Baton Rouge recognized me as an emerging artist in our city some years ago.
The devastating impact of Hurricane Katrina, along with the flood in my city, silenced my spirit on canvas because the paint, brushes and unused canvases washed away while time was consumed with consoling so many who lost so much more.
This year at the heartfelt encouragement of an amazing artist, I have reunited with canvas and paint. The vision is to move beyond abstract and acrylic to oil...and still glitter if it fits. I am moving beyond expressing the wonder of creation to finding an outlet to release the pain of loss.
Finally, I envision my paintings as another way to sustain full-time ministry to uplift the inner-city communities where I work.
